Start by selecting a position for the buttonholes on your fabric. Use a ruler to measure the distance between each buttonhole. When the marks on the movable arm correspond to the measurement taken in step 1, adjust the sewing gauge to the desired distance. Place the fixed end of the sewing gauge on the edge of the fabric and position the movable arm towards the first buttonhole location. Using a fabric pencil or tailor's chalk, advance the movable arm to the marked buttonhole position and adjust the buttonhole accordingly.
