Filter Press is a solid-liquid separation system used in various production and process applications to separate solid particles from liquids and form filter cake. During filtration, the liquid phase passes through the filter cloths and leaves the system, while solid particles are retained between the filter plates and form a filter cake. Plate size, number of plates and machine capacity can be determined according to the characteristics of the product to be filtered and the process requirements of the plant. The machine frame is manufactured as standard from ST37 steel, while the feed section is made of AISI 304 stainless steel. Depending on the process requirements, the filtration section can be equipped with PP (Polypropylene) Chamber filter press plates or Recessed-Flush filter press plates. The filter plates are compressed by a hydraulic system. Machine size, number of plates and system specifications can be determined according to the production capacity and characteristics of the product to be filtered. Filter presses can be manufactured as manual, semi-automatic or fully automatic systems according to process requirements. The product to be filtered is fed into the filtration section of the filter press by a pump. The filter cloths allow the liquid phase to pass through while retaining solid particles between the plates. As filtration continues, solid particles accumulate between the plates and form a filter cake. When the filtration cycle is completed, the plates are opened and the resulting filter cakes are discharged from the machine. The filtrate passing through the filter cloths can then be directed to a suitable point according to the existing process configuration of the plant. Filter press selection should not be based only on plate size. The solids content, particle structure, processing volume, filtration time and operating conditions should be evaluated together. Filter presses can be manufactured with different plate sizes and different numbers of plates according to the process and capacity requirements of the plant. The appropriate plate type, plate size, number of plates and machine capacity can be determined by evaluating the characteristics of the product to be filtered and the production requirements of the facility. Since the characteristics of the products and the particles they contain may vary, selecting the correct filter cloth plays an important role in filtration performance. Whenever possible, a filtration test is carried out using a product sample supplied by the customer. During the test, the filtration behaviour, structure of the resulting filter cake and filtrate quality are evaluated. Based on the test results, suitable filter cloth, plate system and filter press specifications can be determined.
